been coaching all levels of competitive swimming in the Merrimack
Valley for over 25 years. As Haverhill YMCA head coach from
1978-1985 his team won several New England YMCA championship titles

accomplishments with that club included several New England Age
Group and Senior champions. In one year coaching with the Lowell
YMCA in 1986, Rick had several YMCA and New England Age Group and
Senior champions, including a New England Team Division champion
and Lowell YMCA’s first All-American. Rick was the founding
coach of the Merrimack Valley Pirates, which included three Junior
Olympic All-Americans. Coach Batt recently recorded his 200th dual
meet victory as head coach of the Haverhill High School girls
varsity team, and is also the head coach of the Lowell High School

Chris’s
coaching philosophy is in part based on the notion that swimming
well leads to swimming fast. Therefore he emphasizes technique,
depends on a variety of drills, and teaches swimmers how to be

about the sport as an athlete and a coach, and loves being a part
of the swimmers’ successes.

 Will L WrightAssistant CoachEmail
Will is a member
of ASCA and has obtained his Level 2 ASCA Coaching Certification.
The 2009/10 season will be his 8th with New Wave. Coach Will
feels the physical work is important but equally important is the
mental work. This is a passage right out of the American Swim
Coaches Association Training Manual that he lives by; "Perfect
skills are the result of practicing as perfectly as possible. If
skills are practiced incorrectly, then practice has only developed
incorrect skills." Coach Will works mostly with the Junior
group, always working to improve technique and skill sets along
with the physical conditioning, stressing the gains to be made
and fun to be had by staying focussed on the positive. Coach
Will is an active US Master’s swimmer and Coach. He feels
swimming is a life long sport and his hope is for each athlete to
enjoy the sport of swimming for a lifetime.

 Elizabeth BelmontAssistant CoachEmail
Hi my name is Liz Belmont. I'm a recent graduate of
Springfield College with my Bachelor's degree in English, as well
as my Elementary Education Teaching License. I'm currently
working as a teacher's assistant in the third grade and teaching
swim lessons a couple nights a week. I'm hoping to become a
full time teacher in the upcoming years. Since I starting
swimming, I've had a great passion for the sport. I was
previously on the Haverhill High, New Wave, and Springfield College
swim teams competing in the best events (I think) of distance free
and IM. I'm very fortunate to be a part of this team again
and I'm really looking forward to contributing to its athletes'
success. I'm a friendly person and hope to get to know all of
you so if you see me around come up and say hi! See you at
the pool!!
